We acknowledge the traditional stewards of the land where we live and work in Waawiyatanong (Detroit): the Anishinaabe peoples of the Three Fires—Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi—as well as other indigenous groups who gathered here at the curved shores, including the Wyandot, Iroquois, Fox, Miami, and Sauk.

We celebrate the resilience and strength of the Indigenous folks all around us who inspire us daily with creativity, wisdom, and joy in the face of ongoing colonialism and white supremacy. We stand with Indigenous communities and hope you will do the same. Solidarity can look like:

  • Learning about white supremacy, the history of colonization, Indigenous people and cultures, and the land you live on

  • Donating time and money to and building relationships with Indigenous-led organizations, like Detroit Indigenous People’s Alliance

  • Listening to and amplifying the voices of Indigenous people leading grassroots change movements

  • Returning land
